Ultimate Dallas Day Trip Guide

Kids and adults alike will love the Dallas World Aquarium. Get an in-depth history lesson at the George W. Bush Library and Museum. Then come take a horseback trail ride at Southfork Ranch. There’s plenty to do if you’re gearing up for a day trip to Dallas. Read on for the ultimate guide to 24-hour fun.

Outdoor Activities

Made famous by the Ewing Family in the television series Dallas, the legendary Southfork Ranch offers daily mansion tours, horseback riding trails, and a beautiful backdrop for viewing the gorgeous Texas sunset. If you’re visiting Southfork Ranch for an event or party, we recommend checking out some of the other parks in the area.

Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is Plano’s largest park with 800 acres of nature. With trails, creeks and ponds open from sunrise to sunset, there’s so much to see and do. Plus, it’s right next door to Southfork Ranch. Go for a jog along the paved pathway. Or go for a guided nature walk and learn about the various plants and trees known to the area.

Family Activities

About a 30-minute drive from Southfork is the Dallas World Aquarium. Kids will feel like they’re traveling the world without leaving the city. Explore the animals of Africa and Australia. Brave the crocodile cove and learn how certain species catch their prey. This activity is perfect for families looking for something to do during the day.

If you’re looking for a quick afternoon activity in Dallas, take a free ride on the old McKinney Avenue Trolley. What is it about trolleys that kids love? Perhaps ringing the bell when it’s time to get off! Stop at Kylde Warren Park where there are activities happening daily, like food trucks and kid crafts.

Dining

Perfect for an early dinner is Kelly Family Farms’ burger stand. Pull up a seat at one of their outdoor picnic tables. This family farm specializes in 100% grass fed beef. Load up your juicy burger with all the fixins. Plus you can take home a cut of grass fed beef if you have the proper means to transport all that deliciousness.

If you’re staying in downtown Dallas, you can’t go wrong with some BBQ from Pecan Lodge. If you’re heading to Klyde Warren Park, keep your eye out for the Nammi Truck to score some delicious Vietnamese street food.

Arts & Culture

Reunion Tower is a must-see when you’re in Dallas. Head up to the observation deck and take in the spectacular 360-degree views of the city. Have time to linger a little longer? The George W. Bush Library and Museum is chock-full of history. See what it was like to run the country in the early 2000s with important exhibits such as A Nation Under Attack and Life in the White House.
